We have actively addressed various environmental issues through initiatives such as waste removal, discouraging open defecation, planting and nurturing trees, and distributing 20 plastic dustbins (green and red) to help villagers separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Public awareness has been enhanced through numerous activities, including environmental awareness camps and road rallies in the villages, which aim to educate and encourage communities to maintain clean surroundings.

01. Core Carbon Sustainalbe Rice Development Program-Agricultural Development -Alternative Wetting and Drying Project:

Core Carbon Sustainable Rice Production-Alternate wetting and drying (AWD) is a water management technique, practiced to cultivate irrigated lowland rice with much less water than the usual system of maintaining continuous standing water in the crop field. It is a method of controlled and intermittent irrigation. A periodic drying and re-flooding irrigation scheduling approach is followed in which the fields are allowed to dry for few days before re-irrigation, without stressing the plants. This method reduces water demand for irrigation and greenhouse gas emissions without reducing crop yields. This project we are working with farmers of Mahabubabad District Telangana State. Alternate wetting and drying (AWD) is a water-saving technology that lowland (paddy) rice farmers can apply to reduce their water use in irrigated fields. In AWD, irrigation water is applied to flood the field a certain number of days after the disappearance of ponded water. Alternate wetting and drying irrigation practice in rice cultivation can save a significant amount of irrigation water. It involves irrigating rice fields alternately based on an irrigation triggering criterion and possibly influences the soil–plant–water system. 'Alternate wetting and drying' (AWD) is a water management technique, practiced to cultivate irrigated lowland rice with much less water than the usual system of maintaining continuous standing water in the crop field. E-Waste Awareness session at School level-Andhra pradesh State

We conducted awareness programs on e-waste management for girl and boy students across various districts of Andhra Pradesh. In this program, students were educated about e-waste and its impact. In our daily lives, electronic devices such as mobile phones, computers, televisions, tablets, and headphones have become very important. However, when these devices stop working or when new models enter the market and we discard the old ones, they turn into e-waste. Generally, we use a mobile phone for only 2–3 years. After that, we purchase a new one. But what happens to the old phone? Many times, it is thrown into the garbage. From there, harmful chemicals seep into the soil and water, causing environmental pollution. E-waste contains hazardous substances such as Lead, Mercury, and Cadmium. These materials are harmful to human health and can cause respiratory problems, skin diseases, and water contamination. India is one of the largest producers of e-waste in the world. Therefore, we must act responsibly and create strong awareness about proper e-waste management.

Clean cook stove Field study at Tribal community Gutti koyas at Mulugu District

Clean cooking is a critical issue for the world’s poorest communities. Billion people rely on unsafe fuels like kerosene or biomass (wood, charcoal, and animal dung) for cooking. These fuels are both inefficient and harmful, particularly when used indoors without proper ventilation. Open fires and burning kerosene indoors create dangerous air pollution. Inhaling the resulting smoke and fumes causes an increased risk of lung cancer, pneumonia, heart disorders and strokes for household members. It’s estimated that 3.2 million people die prematurely every year because of household air pollution. Gender norms and expectations around domestic responsibilities mean that cooking falls mainly to women and girls. Unfortunately, this means they have less time available to study, carry out paid work and simply relax. They spend more time in the home in general. Cooking and being indoors mean they are particularly exposed to air pollution.

CCX-Stake Holders Consultation meeting at Haripirala Village Thorrur Mandal, Mahabubabad District-TG

Rice cultivation is India's most crucial agricultural operation, not only in terms of food security but also in terms of livelihood. It plays a significant part in the economy and rural employment. Paddy fields are the most dominant anthropogenic sources of methane in the atmosphere (5-20% of the total emission from all anthropogenic sources). Anaerobic decomposition of organic material in flooded rice fields produces methane, which escapes the atmosphere primarily by transport through the rice plants. The annual CH4 emitted from a given rice area is a function of the number and duration of crops grown, water regimes before and during the cultivation period, and organic and inorganic soil amendments. Soil type, temperature, and rice cultivar also affect CH4 emissions. The Program involves implementing an adjusted water management system to mitigate methane emissions from paddy fields in the State of Telangana. The program will lead to a considerable reduction of methane emissions in the paddy fields of India. It will contribute enormously to the sustainable development of rural villages involved in the Project. The program results in a reduction of 30% in water usage and also results in 30% less energy consumption. In this regard, we are organising a Stakeholder Consultation meeting at Seminar Hall, University Auditorium, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University,Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Telangana 500030, dated 09th August 2023, as a part of the Gold Standard procedures to register the program of activity under the Gold Standard Foundation.
